The Town of Nags Head held a ribbon cutting Tuesday, May 21, 2024 to celebrate the grand opening of the newly reconstructed bathhouse at the Epstein public beach access at 5701 South Virginia Dare Trail.

“This significant upgrade is part of the Town’s ongoing strategic planning efforts to maintain and enhance public facilities, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of residents and visitors,” stated a Town of Nags Head news release.

“The Epstein beach access has long been a favorite spot for beachgoers due to its prime location and amenities,” the release continued. “The newly modernized bathhouse now offers an even better experience with state-of-the-art facilities designed for comfort and convenience.”

    Features of the reconstruction include:

    • Modernized Restrooms and Showers: Upgraded with contemporary fixtures and improved accessibility features to ensure a comfortable experience for all users.
    • Enhanced Changing Areas: Expanded and updated to provide more space and privacy.
    • Additional Storage and Meeting Space for Nags Head’s Ocean Rescue Team: New dedicated areas to support the vital operations of the town’s Ocean Rescue division.

“One of our highest priorities in Nags Head is providing a safe and pleasant beachgoing experience for our residents, property owners and guests,” said Nags Head Mayor Ben Cahoon. “Our numerous beach accesses and bathhouses, and our professional, highly trained Ocean Rescue team, are key parts of that experience. This new bathhouse is fully accessible, clean, bright, and spacious. The second floor provides space for Ocean Rescue operations, allowing them to provide better services and coverage to this part of town. Among many Public Services projects undertaken over the last several years, this bathhouse is another illustration of the Town’s commitment to making Nags Head the best place to live, work, raise a family, recreate, or vacation.”

“We’d like to thank the Division of Coastal Management and the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau for their generous support of this important project. We’d also like to recognize DJG Architects, who captured our vision, and Todd Coyle Construction, who brought that vision to fruition,” stated the release. “The reconstruction project reflects Nags Head’s commitment to investing in public infrastructure that supports community well-being and safety. By incorporating feedback from the public and collaborating with stakeholders, the Town has ensured that the new facilities meet high standards of quality and usability.”
