    Nahant fees scheduled to increase

NAHANT — The town released its master fee schedule for Fiscal Year 2025. The schedule includes all fees that departments in Town charge for services. Each year, the Board of Selectmen may recommend increases in some line items from the prior year.

Town Administrator Tony Barletta named the proposed increase of beach parking stickers as one that he believes could receive the most feedback from community members. The proposed change includes increasing the fee from $10 to $15 between Jan. 1 and June 30. From July 1 to Dec. 31, it would increase to $25.

“We have a lot of people come in on July 1 looking for stickers because of the Fourth of July, and our fiscal year ends on June 30,” Barletta said. So encouraging folks to seek their parking sticker before the end of the fiscal year helps bring revenue in… and hopefully will slow down some of that significant traffic that occurs in the week leading up to the Fourth of July.”

Another notable change includes a $45 increase to building permit fee, which cost $30 in FY24. Gas, Plumbing, and Electrical services have also increased.

“The Town reviewed Inspectional Services Department fee data from 30 to 35 Massachusetts’ municipalities for the year 2022,” the town said in a statement. “The intent of the proposed changes to the fees in this department is to bring Nahant closer to the mean fee rate of this data.”

Barletta emphasized that even with the new prices, Nahant remains relatively low-expense in comparison to other municipalities.

Community members now have until Aug. 7 to provide feedback on the fee schedule by contacting Administrative Assistant Kristin Taylor at ktaylor@nahant.org.
