Great American Snacks, which produces appetizer products such as onion rings, jalapeño poppers, dips and mozzarella sticks, is closing its Nampa plant in September.

“After careful consideration and analysis, we have made the difficult decision to close our plant in Nampa, Idaho,” Amy Griffith, spokesperson for McCain Foods, owner of Great American Snacks, said in a statement. “After eight years of partnership in this close-knit community where we have built strong ties with our employees and their families, we know that transferring our manufacturing operation to other facilities will be impactful to the community.”

Griffith added that the company is providing benefits to Nampa employees and will work with plant employees to help them transition into new roles.

Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling provided a statement following the announcement of the plant closure:

“It was unfortunate to hear McCain Foods will be closing their subsidiary plant, Great American Snacks in Nampa, which has been an important employer in Nampa for a number of years. Manufacturing operations like these are a perfect complement to our regional agriculture community. While these decisions are always difficult, I am pleased to hear of the efforts McCain Food is taking to care for their family of employees. McCain Foods is a critical part of our farming economy, and we wish them the best.

“Fortunately, Nampa has several other food-based employers who are looking for great employees. We are standing by to support their transition as best we can.”
