‘The Vines’ Sculpture, Facing Eviction, May Move to Maritime Garage
Anyone who has driven, walked, or taken a bus along West Avenue in Norwalk has seen the undulating artwork called “Gateway to Norwalk,” popularly known as The Vines. The 700- to 800-foot sculpture hangs along the concrete retaining walls, and is made up of twisted metal meant to evoke vines that spell out words and phrases in multiple languages.

Water Department cited for 17 hazardous workplace violations
NORWALK – A complaint submitted last December to the state Dept. of Labor alleging that chemical spills were not being addressed correctly at the First District Water Department’s treatment plant in New Canaan has resulted in the facility being cited for violations of Connecticut’s Occupational Safety and Health Act.
The City’s Planned Budget Increase Is Inequitable
I would like to bring to your attention a planned Norwalk city budget increase that I think is very inequitable and potentially financially detrimental to many Norwalk residents, especially in Districts 1, 2, 3, 6 (Downtown Norwalk, South Norwalk, East Norwalk, Rowayton). The planned tax increases: ~$2,000 tax bill increases for Districts 1, 2, and 3 and ~$3,700k for Rowayton. Motor vehicle taxes will also be increased to the maximum allowed in spite of declining motor vehicle assessments.
Stew Leonard’s Apple Crisp is recalled
Another voluntary bakery product recall at Stew Leonard’s is in effect. Two items sold in the bakery department at all seven Stew’s stores between August 28, 2023 and March 8, 2024 could cause you to suffer “a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction” if you’re allergic or severely sensitive to milk or eggs. That’s according to a news release from Connecticut’s Department of Consumer Protection, Food Standards and Product Safety Division (DCP) which says that no resulting illnesses have been reported thus far.
Broadway star Robin de Jesus comes home to Norwalk
Broadway star Robin de Jesús will present a personal musical memoire in his cabaret show Getting Started at 8 p.m. on Saturday March 23 at Music Theater of Connecticut, 509 Westport Avenue in Norwalk. A native Norwalker, de Jesus received Tony Award nominations for his performances in The Boys in the Band, In the Heights, and La Cage Aux Folles. Other Broadway appearances were roles in Rent and Wicked, and his TV credits include Hulu’s Welcome to Chippendales and Netflix’s adaptation of Tick, Tick…Boom!
