Are you a Norwalk resident who is qualified to become the city’s next poet laureate? Would you like to present your poems at schools, libraries, community colleges, local writing groups, public readings and online venues? Apply for this coveted two-year position by filling out the form at Poet Laureate 2024 Application.pdf. Chamber of Commerce appoints new president
The Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce has appointed Shannon O’Toole-Giandurco its new president. Currently serving as the Chamber’s membership director, she’ll replace resigning president Brian Griffin on Friday, August 2. According to a news release, O’Toole-Giandurco “brings experience in business development and a strong commitment to Norwalk’s vibrant community. Her leadership is expected to build upon the Chamber’s legacy of service and strengthen its impact on the local economy.”
MIRA USA will host a business focused workshop on entrepreneurship for Spanish speakers
MIRA USA INC will host a workshop in Spanish and English at the Norwalk Public Library at 1 Belden Avenue, to help immigrants and aspiring entrepreneurs develop and implement successful business models. The workshop will take place on Saturday, July 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. “Cómo Desarrollar una Idea de Negocio y No Fracasar en el Intento”–How to Develop a Business Idea and Not Fail in the Attempt– seeks to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to generate income and become profitable.

Unnamed benefactor improves conditions for Norwalk’s strays
Stray or lost animals will have a more comfortable stay in Norwalk thanks to an unnamed benefactor who bequeathed $331,000 to the City to improve its pound. Norwalk Police officer Vetare retires following arrest, departmental investigation
A Norwalk police officer arrested in March following his alleged involvement in an off-duty road rage incident has retired. In a news release Wednesday, Police Chief James Walsh said Officer David Vetare, 54, retired from service on Tuesday, July 2, after a departmental investigation found he had violated several Norwalk Police Manual rules of conduct.
