Over Thanksgiving I mused on some recent developments. TRAINS: Are you heading into New York City to go shopping? Veteran riders will remember when Metro-North would offer “Shopper Specials” trains to handle the crowds, but no more. The trains may be seeing more passengers but the railroad tells me only that they are “monitoring ridership carefully and (are) prepared to quickly add trains to any of (the) lines if demand calls for it.” Tell that to the standees on many rush-hour trains.
MTC offers holiday show
Renowned cabaret star Jeff Harnar touches down in Norwalk with signature renditions of seasonal tunes by Irving Berlin, Sammy Cahn, Cole Porter Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Carole King and more in Homeward Bound: Songs of the Holidays. City Menorah lighting set for Wednesday
Everyone will be welcome when Rabbi Yehoshua S. Coalition removes lobster traps from Long Island Sound
Nearly 1,200 abandoned lobster trapping pots have been removed from Long Island Sound’s Connecticut waters via the combined efforts of The Maritime Aquarium, Save the Sound, Project Oceanology, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County, Remote Ecologist and local fishers under the banner of the “Lobster Trap Recovery and Assessment Partnership” (L-TRAP). Abandoned pots continue to entrap lobsters, crabs, and fish who then die and attract larger predators; moreover, the pots are said to “disrupt bottom habitats, interfere with navigation and the work of remaining members of the fishery, and leach potentially harmful chemicals into the water as plastic coating on the gear breaks down.

NPS deputy superintendent heads for N.J. to lead Hackensack school district
Thomas McBryde is leaving his post as Norwalk Public Schools deputy superintendent to become superintendent of Hackensack Public Schools in New Jersey. McBryde was appointed Monday at a special meeting of the Hackensack Board of Education, according to a meeting agenda. His annual salary in the three-year contract will be $263,000 a year, beginning Jan. 1. In 2022, McBryde earned $230,983 here, according to a document provided by the City.

Circle Care Center merges with Glastonbury practice
Norwalk-based medical provider Circle Care Center announces its merger with infectious disease specialist Dr. Kenneth Abriola’s Glastonbury practice, according to a news release. Circle’s Senior Medical Director David Rubin, M.D. and Family Nurse Practitioner Trish Garton, D.N.P., met recently with Abriola at a retreat where the two facilities’ staffs mingled.
