Rilling, Estrella, condemn video shot on middle school field as racist
NORWALK, Conn. — A short video posted Friday on Facebook has been condemned as racist by Mayor Harry Rilling and Superintendent of Schools Alexandra Estrella. Dujaun Wiggins posted the nine second video, which shows a group of boys in a huddle on a playing field. A Black boy in the middle grins broadly as one boy says, “Yeah, Dr. Martin Luther King!” The next statement is “We love Kool-Aid.” After some garbled words, “watermelon” is audible. The video ends with the “n-word,” as some of the youth raise their hands in a celebratory way.

Norwalk’s density is by Rilling’s design
A truly amazing meeting last night (Wednesday June 21st) with the Norwalk Zoning Board to discuss the upcoming revisions to the City’s Zoning Regulations. As you may be aware (I’m assuming most Norwalkers aren’t) the City is planning a revision to the City Zoning maps with the intention of consolidating the number of zones and to, “increase the number of affordable housing units.” The main way to do this (apparently) is to allow more apartments to be constructed, more development on available parcels and allowing 2-family housing in areas currently zoned as single-family-only parcels.

Simms Foundation, though dormant, selected by Simms for $150K in State budget
State Rep. Travis Simms (D-140) has chosen to send $150,000 in taxpayer money to a foundation that bears his name, a foundation that may or may not exist as a legal entity. The money is listed in the state budget as one of 184 such grants — and the fifth-largest — awarded by the Judicial Branch to nonprofit organizations offering youth programs. Organizations are nominated by members of the General Assembly’s Black and Puerto Rican Caucus (BPRC), sources say. The state budget, signed by Gov. Ned Lamont on June 14, allocated $7,283,132 for the Youth Service Prevention (YSP) grants, up from $5,014,214 in 2021.
