Norwalk Police seek community’s help in seeking robbery suspects
Two women robbed a Connecticut Avenue liquor store Wednesday, Norwalk Police said. The 911 call to Al’s Warehouse Liquor Store came in at 7:37 p.m.; the employee who called said she was assaulted by one of the suspects as she confronted her for stealing a bottle of liquor, according to the news release. The victim declined medical treatment.
Mayoral campaigns report third quarter fundraising totals
Democratic Mayor Harry Rilling’s campaign had spent $58,155 on his reelection effort as of Sept. 30. Eversource tree removal angers Norwalk Land Trust
Norwalk Land Trust members were surprised and angry Wednesday to find Eversource clearing trees on what they thought was Land Trust property off West Cedar Street. NLT President Lisa Shanahan subsequently learned that Eversource was clearing its right-of-way, as allowed by law, she said. NLT had not been informed, although the law requires Eversource to inform adjacent property owners.

Norden Place owners promise cleanup as Norwalk P&Z threatens citation
Someone appears to be living in an RV parked at 10 Norden Place, close to the road, an East Norwalk resident recently told the Planning and Zoning Department. “My children walk that area and ride bikes on the street nearby,” Republican Town Committee Secretary Diana Paladino Christopher wrote. “Next to the RV is a debris pile of old chairs, blankets, a lamp and other items. They are often moved around and placed closer to the RV and then at other times a bit more distant.”

Heavy machinery has been toiling on the “BJ’s site” at 272-280 Ave., and City officials said Tuesday they don’t know why. On Wednesday, Assistant Planning and Zoning Director Alexis Cherichetti said, “Per the contractor, they are prepping the site to make it more presentable. It appears they seek to remove concrete and fill piles, cut down the existing weeds and trees, demolish the rear concrete wall, and grading of the site.”

Bike/Walk Commission asks for your assistance
Norwalk’s Bike/Walk Commission asks residents to fill out a survey needed for Norwalk to join the 500+ U.S. municipalities deemed, “Bicycle Friendly Communities” by the League of American Bicyclists. Man assaulted SoNo bar manager with stolen gun, Norwalk Police say
Norwalk Police who quickly responded to an early Sunday report of an armed man fighting with the manager of a SoNo bar near police headquarters, on the upper deck of the Haviland Street parking lot, broke up a brawl and chased one suspect on foot, a news release said. The suspect dropped a stolen gun while fleeing and was arrested without incident.
City looks to change Naramake, NHS property lines
The Naramake Elementary school property line goes “right through” the Norwalk High School football field, according to Building and Facilities Manager Alan Lo. Given various issues around the new NHS project, including the desire to get maximum State reimbursement for the construction, Lo led Common Council members to preliminarily approve adjusting the lines.
Rilling unveils dashboard’s return, celebrates new Parks Master Plan
The Mayor’s Dashboard has returned with two modules dovetailing with the recently approved Recreation and Parks Master Plan. City officials met Thursday to highlight the just-adopted master plan and announce the dashboard’s relaunch, unveiling two of seven themes, “Enhancing Parks and Green Spaces” and “An Environmentally Sustainable City.”
Moving forward with ADHD
The month of October is recognized annually as the month for ADHD Awareness. The theme for this year is “Moving Forward with ADHD.” It is the intent of this effort to dispel old myths, gain new information and awareness about this condition and move forward productively with this knowledge. It is hoped that through this effort, the community may grow to understand the challenges, issues and obstacles those with ADHD face on a daily basis.

Chamber schedules Mayoral debate
A public debate between Norwalk’s five-time incumbent Mayor Harry Rilling, a Democrat, and Republican challenger Vinny Scicchitano will be presented by Greater Norwalk Chamber at 8 a.m. on Tuesday Oct. 31 at Norwalk Inn and Conference Center, located at 99 East Avenue. The moderator will be Harry Casey, External Affairs Director of the event’s sponsor AT&T.
