NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Rain, clouds, humidity, none of it stopping a community in Luzerne County from celebrating the Fourth of July a few days early.
Live music all night to keep the energy high at the 10th Annual Big Bang Celebration in Nanticoke.
“It’s something for the community, everybody gets together, it’s just a great event,” Nanticoke Mayor Kevin Coughlin said.
Coming together: That’s what the celebration is all about.
“I love the community, the way everyone comes together,” said Nanticoke Resident Danyelle Cweizig.
The space was filled with a variety of food and craft vendors that offered everything from delicious treats to unique handmade items.
“It’s nice to be a part of the community to support one another, small businesses and locals and things like that,” said Jazzy Treasures vendor Milly Helvick.
United Methodist Church 140th Anniversary celebrated in Courtdale Bounce houses, toys, and more make it a perfect day out for the kids.
“It’s a great place for the kids, there’s a lot to do, every year it’s a blast the whole community comes out and the kids really love it,” said Gioioa Potter from Nanticoke.
It was a perfect day to catch up with friends.
“Just to meet with the fellas and have a good time,” said Mark Welch.
“Have a fun time and see my friends and stuff,” Rocco Halate from Nanticoke explained.
Plus, with potato pancakes on the menu, it’s a hard event to say no to.
“What are you looking forward to tonight?” 28/22 News Reporter Kathryn Oleary asked.
“Potato pancakes. Already got them,” attendee Linda Mckarm explained.
The celebration concluded with a bang through a fireworks show.
