Are rising seas eroding Nantucket home prices?
A property recently sold for as low as $200,000, and this is not the first time something like this has happened. Is it a trend? Not so fast. Earlier this year, when a waterfront Nantucket home sold for $600,000 with the beach “nearly gone,” it was shockingly unusual.

Shark devours seal just offshore from popular vacation spot in gruesome video
Shocking footage captured a shark feasting on a seal just a few feet from a Nantucket beach on Sunday — turning the waters red with blood and prompting officials to prohibit swimming for the rest of the afternoon. Video of the alarming attack, obtained by Nantucket Current, shows fins violently thrashing around in the water just beyond the shore of Great Point beach. A shark’s dorsal fin then breaks the surface in a pool of blood, and the seal carcass grimly floats up for a fleeting moment before the shark chomps down on it again. “Oh my gosh, that shark just...
Here and There
(July 11, 2024) The sun rose at 5:16 this morning and will set at 8:15 this evening. The Fourth of July weekend weather did not provide the endless beach days many people were anticipating. The days leading up to the Fourth, and the holiday itself, were perfect beach days with blue skies, plenty of sun and a welcome breeze. After that, clouds, fog and rain were intermittent throughout the weekend.
Why This $2 Million Nantucket House Sold for Just $200K
Nantucket’s popularity as a summer hot spot shows no signs of eroding—but its coastline is a different story. In fact, a handsome 1,700-square-foot home on the affluent Massachusetts island, which is located off the coast of Cape Cod, recently sold for just $200,000 after being valued at nearly $2 million. (The average sale price of a house on Nantucket is $3.1 million, per Realtor.com.)
A Snob’s Guide to Nantucket With Kids
With all the billionaires buying up Nantucket real estate and making litigious spectacles of themselves, you might wonder if there’s a need for a Snob’s Guide to this 48-square-mile island located off the coast of Massachusetts. Indeed, discerning travel advice is particularly vital in places where the mobs are monied and the legitimately wonderful can be obscured by the overhyped and overpriced. This holds especially true when traveling with children, who are generally not impressed by prime reservations times at restaurants or lines of any sort.
