Barstool owner rescued by Coast Guard after losing control of boat off Nantucket
The owner and founder of Barstool Sports lost control of a boat off Massachusetts before being rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard. Dave Portnoy, 47, said in a TikTok video that the harrowing Monday rescue off Nantucket happened after he unhooked his boat from buoys. Heavy winds then caused him to drift out to sea, and his engine was dead, he said.
Planning Board backs STR compromise article, with minor changes
(July 15, 2024) The Planning Board is backing Article 1, the Select Board’s compromise short-term rental article for Special Town Meeting in September. At Monday’s meeting, the Planning Board gave a positive motion to Article 1 and recommended voters “take no action” on Articles 2, 3, and 4. Those three were citizen articles proposed by Charity Benz, Steven Cohen and Grant Sanders respectively.

Nantucket beaches were shut down to swimming on Tuesday after a Vineyard Wind offshore wind turbine broke and beachgoers began finding debris from the blade damage incident. The offshore wind development company on Tuesday said it was sending debris recovery teams to Nantucket’s southern-facing beaches, adding that the cause of the breakage remained unknown. Vineyard Wind’s operations have also been temporarily shut down following the incident.

After 10 dead loggerhead sea turtles were found around Cape Cod and the Islands, Mass Audubon is urging boaters to use extreme caution. All the turtles were found on beaches or floating in local waters. Dead turtles washed ashore in Chatham, Yarmouth, Barnstable, Aquinnah and Tisbury on Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket, said Aaron Gouveia, the organization's public relations director.
Debris Teams Searching For Parts Of Turbine Blade
Debris recovery teams are being mobilized on Nantucket after a blade was damaged on a wind turbine. Vineyard Wind says the incident that took place on Saturday. The teams will be surveying the southern-facing beaches of the island and are working with the U.S. Coast Guard to maintain a safety zone of 500 meters around the impacted turbine offshore.
