Nantucket wind-farm wreck reveals the true cost of the left’s green energy push

Joe Biden’s presidency isn’t the only thing in freefall this summer.

On July 13, a massive blade from a wind turbine nearly as tall as the Eiffel Tower collapsed into Nantucket Sound, throwing the Massachusetts tourist destination into economic crisis at the height of the summer season and creating a political headache for the green warriors who have championed these costly and unproven boondoggles.

Yet media coverage has been notably subdued, even though miles of the island’s famous ocean beaches had to be closed for days due to the dangerous debris.

After all, the Biden-Harris administration has pledged to generate 30 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2030 , a national imperative they won’t abandon come hell or dirty water.

For comparison, the $4 billion Nantucket wind farm currently collapsing into the Atlantic had hoped to generate a mere 0.8 gigawatts — meaning the administration’s wind scheme offers 37 times as much potential economic and environmental disaster.

When the Vineyard Wind project that broke down so horrifically this month was greenlit by Biden’s Department of Interior in May 2021 , it was billed as “the first large-scale, offshore wind project in the United States.”

Three years later, it’s falling apart for no apparent reason, with no storm or adverse weather to blame.

Thank green fanatics for New York’s looming summer blackouts

Literally, a wind farm was broken by the wind.

The implications are worth considering as Vice President Kamala Harris, a climate zealot who ran to Biden’s left in the 2020 Democratic primary as an early and unabashed champion of the Green New Deal, takes her imperiled party’s reins.

The “blade failure incident,” as it has been generously dubbed by its corporate supporters, has left a trail of damage in its wake.

“Large floating debris and sharp fiberglass shards” led to the immediate closure of Nantucket’s famous south-facing ocean beaches, the Boston Herald reported.

At 300 feet long, each individual blade is the length of a football field, so the shattered turbine arm threw off plenty of wreckage: more than six truckloads’ worth was collected, with more still washing up this week.

Opponents of the wind farm had projected it would cost Nantucket’s tourism industry as much as $800 million over the next 30 years as they blighted the island’s pristine horizon.

Yet like the movie “Jaws,” this month’s incident and its forced beach closures had an even more immediate effect.

“This is the time of the year where every day is like a week to me for earning,” the owner of a local surf shop lamented during a recent hearing of the Nantucket Select Board.

Team Biden’s sleazy plan to get the unpopular prez reelected — by any means necessary

“Nobody has any answers … everyone has said it’s pretty clear they have no idea how long this is going to take.”

The lack of accountability from those responsible for the project has been a common theme.

“You’re kind of good at saying nothing in a whole lot of words,” one local woman railed against Vineyard Wind CEO Klaue Moeller when he met with residents on July 18.

Far from instilling confidence or providing answers, the Vineyard Wind clean-up crew instead managed to get their Jeep stuck in the sand , drawing mockery as a symbol of the company’s ineptitude.

Lest you dismiss Vineyard Wind as an isolated bad actor, take a look at other offshore wind projects.

In New Jersey, offshore wind power conglomerate Orsted scrapped its projects after deeming them no longer financially feasible.

The Danish company paid Garden State taxpayers only $125 million of the $300 million it owed, despite New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy vowing to “fight like hell” to get all the money back.

Questions remain about wind farms’ role in the death of endangered right whales .

Meanwhile, wind turbines are undeniably causing the deaths of millions of birds each year.

In New England, the feds have shut down Vineyard Wind’s operations until the damage from the blade has been contained.

But rest assured, a Democratic Party led by Kamala Harris will be back for more — much more.

In her first remarks after Biden’s weekend bow-out, she claimed that their “legacy of accomplishment over the past three years is unmatched in modern history.”

Of course, the centerpiece of the left’s list of Biden “accomplishments” is the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, which included $369 billion worth of green giveaways.

And during her ill-fated 2020 run for president, Harris wanted to spend exponentially more on crazy climate projects — to the tune of $10 trillion in public and private funding.

If you live in New England, watch your head: falling blades from failing wind farms could be launched your way at any moment — all in the name of “climate science.”
