PSP REPORTS: SALTSBURG CRASH, BRUSH VALLEY BURGLARY
State police have released details on a crash in Saltsburg Borough that happened on the 4th of July. Troopers say the crash happened at 9:23 AM on Canal Street just east of Walnut Way. 63-year-old Joseph Dykes, Sr. of Saltsburg was driving Northwest on Canal Street when the car went off the southern side of the road and went into guide wires, rolling onto its passenger side. The car was disabled. While Dykes had suspected minor injuries, he refused medical treatment from Lifestat EMTs on-scene. Saltsburg Fire Department also assisted on scene.
MAN CHARGED WITH HOMICIDE BY VEHICLE DUE IN COURT FOR STATUS CONFERENCE
A status conference is scheduled for today for a man charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence and other crimes. Court documents show that 24-year-old Reed Tantlinger of Homer City will go before President Judge Thomas Bianco for the conference today. Along with the previously mentioned charge, he is accused of accident where the victim dies, two counts of DUI-controlled substance, along with seven summary traffic counts in connection with an incident on January 7th, 2023 that killed 25-year-old Hunter McCloskey. The crash happened in the Westbound lanes of Route 422 in Pine Township as Tantlinger allegedly rear-ended McCloskey’s vehicle, pushing him into several boulders and a utility pole along the side of the road. Tantlinger fled the scene but was later found at a relative’s house.
Curve take 5-of-6 from Baysox at PNG
The Altoona Curve won their ninth game in the last 10 outings with a 5-3 win over the Bowie Baysox on Sunday afternoon in front of 4,114 fans at PNG Field. Charles McAdoo’s three-hit afternoon paced the Curve as they took five of six from the Baysox on the week.

NORTHERN APPALACHIAN FOLK FESTIVAL NAMES “POET LAUREATES OF NORTHERN APPALACHIA”
The Northern Appalachian Folk Festival has announced the first recipients of a newly-created award meant to honor those who have made significant achievements in poetry. Jack Smith, Nick Brisini and Danny Meagher will be awarded the title of “Poet Laureates of Northern Appalachia” at ceremonies on Saturday, September 7th during the annual festival. The three are currently working on a book of poetry that was recently submitted to WVU Press for publication later this year.
