ATV Trail Study Receives Grant
The Altoona Blair County Development Corporation has received a federal grant of nearly $250,000 for a feasibility study to decide how to create a network of all-terrain vehicle trails in Blair, Centre, Cambria and Clearfield Counties. Currently there are not enough legal ATV related trails for the nearly 16,000 active ATV registrations in the four-county area. According to a press release, it is hoped that existing legal trails can be connected along with new trails, and main streets. The grant is from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, under administration of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Heritage Methodist Church, located on the Diamond in Ligonier, is serving a Sandwich and Salad Luncheon 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20. According to Ina Mae Smithley, chair of public relations, “the popular luncheon will feature pulled pork and chicken salad sandwiches, pasta salad, pretzel salad, pie and beverages. The luncheon will be available for dining in or takeout.”

James Eugene “Jim” Gromley of Josephine passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Beacon Ridge, Indiana, PA. Jim was born on April 19, 1968 Towanda, PA, Bradford County. Jim is the son of the late Morris Clyde Gromley and Margaret Elizabeth Travis Gromley. He was a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan School, Dixonville, PA. Jim proudly served in US Army as a Food Specialist. Most recently Jim worked as a cook for the Hoss’s Steak and Sea House, Indiana, PA. He was a life member of the Clymer Volunteer Fire Company #1.

Doris Jane (Marshall) Grove, 89, of Indiana, formerly of Sagamore, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, in Heritage Grove Senior Living, Indiana. Born in Indiana on November 8, 1934, to the late Kenneth and Ruth (Lewis) Marshall, Doris worked for Season-All Industries until the plant’s closure and then for the Indiana Gazette until her retirement.

Ethan Downie Osterhout, 35, of Indiana passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024. A son of Karl E. Osterhout and Alison J. Downie, he was born Aug. 6, 1988, in Pittsburgh. Ethan relished being a Pittsburgher, even while he lived in Georgia for several years after graduating from Towson University. He had lived in Indiana since 2020. Ethan enjoyed sports, was a loyal fan of the Steelers and the Penguins, and Primanti’s was his favorite restaurant. As a little boy, Ethan loved Thomas the Tank Engine trains. As an adult, he often wore a t-shirt featuring a Thomas train logo.
ZIMMERMAN NAMED TO 4A ALL-STATE SECOND TEAM
Indiana grad Olivia Zimmerman earned All-State honors in Class 4A after being named second-team All-State by the PA High School Softball Coaches Association yesterday. Zimmerman hit .462 with three home runs and 25 RBIs this season for Indiana. She also went 11-4 in the circle with a 1.49 ERA and 149 strikeouts.

Bonnie J. (Mogle) Buzzinotti Pavlick of Graceton, PA, passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 80 years old. She was born September 4, 1943 in Indiana, PA. She was a member of the Coral Luther Chapel Church. Bonnie owned & operated the Fireside Inn with her mother, Virginia for many years in Black Lick. She worked for Bilo in Indiana and the Golden Cup restaurant in Homer City. Bonnie was loved by all who knew her. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family & friends.

Brian E. Rairigh
RAIRIGH, BRIAN E., 54, Hastings, passed away July 8, 2024, as a result of a motorcycle accident. Born April 28, 1970, in Spangler, the son of Boyd and Elizabeth (Blake) Rairigh. Preceded in death by sister Stacey Novak. Survived by parents, Boyd and Elizabeth Rairigh, Patton; daughters, Caitlyn (Brian) Wylie, Northern Cambria; Samantha (David Hollen) Rairigh, Hastings; Briana (Ray) Keith, Hastings; five grandchildren, Kailey, Jason, Lora, Maverick, and Ava; and brother, Robert Rairigh. Employed by Servpro as a Laborer. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting and riding his motorcycle. Most of all he especially enjoyed spending time with his dog Hershey who passed away this last year. Brian was a loving father and grandfather. No visitation or services. The family will host a celebration honoring Brian’s life in the near future. Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria in charge of arrangements.
