Pirates' Thomas Harrington: Dominant at Double-A
Harrington has thrown five-plus innings in eight straight starts for Double-A Altoona, logging a 2.80 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 47 strikeouts in 45 innings over that span. Harrington's season numbers are even better, but he wasn't pitching as deep into games early in the season. The 23-year-old righty matched a career high with 11 strikeouts in his most recent start July 10 against Bowie. He has three above-average or better offerings (fastball, changeup, slider) and also throws a cutter and a curveball. His 3.5 percent walk rate is the fourth-best mark among Double-A pitchers who have thrown at least 50 innings.

JANE COLEMAN, CO-FOUNDER OF ACCENT FUELS, DIES AT THE AGE OF 86
One of the founders of a long-standing fuel sales business has passed away. Jane Coleman of Brush Valley founded Accent Fuels with her husband in 1964. She worked there for almost 50 years before Accent’s warehouse was destroyed by a fire in 2013. The business had been sold to their sons prior to the fire on West Indiana Street. The business is still in operation today.

WAYMAKERS ROSTER HAS FOUR IUP NAMES
The D2 Waymakers have posted their final roster for the million dollar winner-take-all “The Basketball Tournament”, and it includes four IUP names. Dante Lombardi coaches the team and is listed on the roster, along with Ethan Porterfield, Cobo Diaz, and Armoni Foster. Indiana High and Shippensburg star Carlos Carter is also on the team, which opens play against Auburn on Saturday in Lexington, Kentucky.
BLAIRSVILLE MAYOR EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER BUILDING WITHOUT PERMITS
During the Blarisville Borough Council Meeting, Mayor Ronald Evanko expressed some concern that people were not getting proper permits for home construction projects. Evanko said during the meeting that he is seeing construction projects, like roofing, going on for one day, but they do not have the proper permits for it. He said that having those permits is very important.
SECOND STRUCTURE FIRE, AUTOMATIC ALARMS REPORTED WEDNESDAY
Along with last night’s fire in Homer City, there were just a few other calls for first responders over the last 24 hours in Indiana County. The only other major call was another reported structure fire along Mahoning Road in Cherry Tree Borough. Cherry Tree, Commodore, and Hope Fire Departments were dispatched at 10:55 PM. Details on that fire have not yet been released.

HOMER CITY POST 493 PLACES THREE ON ALL-SECTION SENIOR LEGION TEAM
The District 31 Senior Legion All-Section Team was released yesterday, and several Indiana County stars made the team. Homer City Post 493 infielder Braden Dunn and outfielder Rocco Cosentino both made first team. Dunn batted .407 and had an OPS of .985, with 22 Hits, 16 RBIs, and 17 runs. Cosentino batted .378 with an OPS of 1.138, 14 hits, 3 doubles, 4 triples, 15 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

BOSWELL ― Another financial hurdle has been cleared in the borough's efforts to replace its antiquated stormwater drainage system. The state Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) announced on June 26 that Somerset County was awarded $755,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to replace stormwater drainage pipes along Allegheny Street in Boswell.

HARRISBURG -- In a special meeting Wednesday morning, the Board of Governors of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education accepted the commonwealth's 2024-25 appropriation of nearly $614.8 million, an increase of 6% over 2023-24, as well as a tuition fee freeze for a seventh consecutive year for Indiana University of Pennsylvania and nine sister institutions.
