MOTIONS HEARING SET FOR SUSPECT IN GAREFFA KILLING
A motions hearing is set for today for one of the people accused in the death of Hayden Gareffa. Court Documents show that the hearing for 20-year-old Summer Settlemeyer will be held today in front of Indiana County President Judge Thomas Bianco. The hearing is dealing with motions concerning Settlemeyer’s mental health. She was one of seven adults and one juvenile that were charged with coercing Gareffa to leave his grandmother’s home and stabbed him multiple times before leaving him for dead in a field of tall grass off Oneida Mine Road in Brush Valley Township in 2022. Settlemeyer is charged with criminal homicide, kidnapping to facilitate a felony, kidnapping to inflict injury or terror, aggravated assault, conspiracy to those four charges along with statutory sexual assault.
TWO VEHICLES DAMAGED BY FIRE AT BLAIRSVILLE WALMART
A car was destroyed by a fire Tuesday afternoon in Burrell Township. Blairsville and Black Lick firefighters were summoned to the parking lot of the Blairsville Walmart around 11:49 a.m. for a car that was fully engulfed by flames. Ab Dettorre with the Blairsville Fire Department said that car was a total loss and one next to it sustained damage from melted plastic.
BARRY C. FAILS, 76
Barry C. Fails, 76 of Blairsville, PA, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at his home. He was born April 10, 1948 in Indiana, PA, the son of the late Raymond Fails and Clare (McFeaters) Fails. He was a gas well driller for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Eagles and Coral-Graceton Sportsman Club and a social member of the VFW of Blairsville & New Florence. Barry was a member of the Black Lick Volunteer Fire Company for over 20 years where he enjoyed driving the International Pumper Truck. He enjoyed running demolition derbies for many years, working on cars, riding his Harley and deer hunting.
PENNDOT ANNOUNCES NEW DATE FOR BOX CULVERT INSTALLATION OVER MARSH RUN
PennDOT has announced the re-scheduled date for the installation of a box culvert over Marsh Run in Indiana Borough and White Township. The new date is this Thursday, July 18th and the project will happen from 7 AM to 7 PM that day. There will be some extra traffic restrictions in the project area of Wayne Avenue, as there will be one-lane flagging operations with closures up to five minutes expected as a crane gets placed to install the box culvert. On that day, motorists are encouraged to find an alternate route.

JANE COLEMAN, CO-FOUNDER OF ACCENT FUELS, DIES AT THE AGE OF 86
One of the founders of a long-standing fuel sales business has passed away. Jane Coleman of Brush Valley founded Accent Fuels with her husband in 1964. She worked there for almost 50 years before Accent’s warehouse was destroyed by a fire in 2013. The business had been sold to their sons prior to the fire on West Indiana Street. The business is still in operation today.

FIVE POWER LINES DOWN REPORTED ON MONDAY
First responders were busy yesterday with multiple calls related to utility lines coming down. The first such call was at 2:40 PM yesterday as a line went down along Two Lick Drive in White Township. Four other calls were reported by Indiana County 911 between 4:58 PM and 7:26 PM in locations in Rayne, Canoe, Green and Banks Townships.
