Award-winning true crime author discusses his craft and ‘The Alaskan Blonde’ | State of Art
Author of the book, “The Alaskan Blonde” James Bartlett is set to teach a series of workshops on July 17 and 18 at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival. In these classes Bartlett will discuss some of the techniques he uses to write true crime and find compelling stories to share. The Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival runs from July 14 to July 18 and will include workshops covering topics from three minute story telling to advanced Zimbabwean style marimba. Bartlett joins us to tell us a little bit about what he’ll be teaching, what his career in crime writing has been like and reads an excerpt of his book, “The Alaskan Blonde.”

Move-in has now begun at a new affordable housing facility in downtown Juneau. KTOO reports Glory Hall's former homeless shelter and soup kitchen has been converted into seven affordable housing units. There's also a commercial space downstairs. Officials say construction took less than a year. Grants from the city and other local organizations helped fund the project in Juneau.

Search for missing woman continues 29 years after disappearing from Forest Fair
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - July 1 marks 29 years since Stephanie Juarez last saw her sister, Erin Marie Gilbert. Gilbert was 24 at the time of her disappearance and last seen at the Girdwood Forest Fair while out on a date. Her date said she disappeared while he was looking for help after his vehicle wouldn’t start. Juarez said her family continues to search for answers nearly three decades later.
