Voters head to the polls in Collier County today to cast ballots in more than 10 key races. Up for grabs this year are a Collier-based seat in the Legislature, two Collier County School Board seats, the jobs of Collier Property Appraiser and Collier Supervisor of Elections, among others. Two incumbents are being challenged for their spots on the Collier County Commission.

The Naples Daily News will cover election results as they come in live tonight.

Some races will be decided in the primary — but others will move on to the general election, Nov. 5, where finalists will duke it out or primary winners will face write-ins or competition from an opposing party.

Election day comes after thousands have already cast vote-by-mail ballots or voted in person during the Aug. 10-17 early voting period.

These are a few of the high-profile races on the ballot:

Collier County Commission District 5 primary election: The incumbent Bill McDaniel, is challenged — by another Republican — in this Collier commission race. There is not a challenger from another party, so this election will be decided in today's primary and is open to all Collier voters to cast a ballot. Candidates: incumbent Bill McDaniel and Ralph Rodriguez

Collier County Commission District 3 Republican primary : Four Republicans are battling it out for the seat currently held by candidate Burt Saunders . The winner of the primary will face no-party candidate Richard Conover in the fall. Today's candidates are: John Johnson , Frank Roberts , Floyd Yarnell and incumbent Burt Saunders .

Collier County Supervisor of Elections Republican primary : Three Republicans are vying for opportunity to move on to the general election and ultimately take the job of Collier County Supervisor of Elections. Only Republicans will be able to vote in the primary because a "ghost" candidate qualified as a write-in , closing the primary.

The candidates are: Melissa Blazier , Tim Guerrette , Dave Schaffel .
