    VOTE: Naples Daily News Athlete of the Week presented by Elevate Home Services for Aug. 19-24

    The first Naples Daily News Athlete of the Week poll for the 2024-25 school year is here.

    Each week the Naples Daily News staff will select one finalist in each high school sport. Nominees are derived from scores and stats emailed in by Collier County’s coaches during the week to sports@naplesnews.com. Readers can then vote in the online poll to determine who the Athlete of the Week will be.

    The Elite 11: Who are Southwest Florida's top volleyball players to watch during the 2024 season?

    The poll will be posted at naplesnews.com each Monday, and voting will end at 10 a.m. Thursday each week. The winner will be announced on the @ndnprepzone Instagram page and on Twitter at @NDN_PrepZone. The winning athlete will receive a shirt courtesy of BSN Sports.

    Here are the nominees for August 19-24:

    Football Offense

    Jontay Hais, Immokalee

    Ran for 212 yards on just 12 carries with three touchdowns as the Indians rolled past Barron Collier, 59-28.

    Football Defense

    LaCarlos McGee III, Naples

    Finished with 9 total tackles (5 for loss), adding a sack to help Naples beat Riverview, 47-14.

    Volleyball

    Medney Garraux, Marco Island

    Opened up the first week of the regular season with 112 kills across 15 sets, posting a kill percentage of 59.9 percent and a kills per set average of 7.5. Marco Island went 4-2 in their first six games.

    Boys Golf

    Spencer Ives, Community School

    Posted scores of 74 and 70 at the Bishop Verot Invitational, held at Stoneybrook this weekend.

    Girls Golf

    Alayna Freidt, Community School

    Won the Bishop Verot Invitational, breaking par for the first time in her career, winning with a score of 146.

    Boys Cross Country

    Trey Mortensen, First Baptist

    Posted a new school record at the Lehigh Invite, clocking a 16:12.12, edging out his competition by 1.6 seconds.

    Girls Cross Country

    Ava Heskett, Gulf Coast

    Took home second place in the Lehigh Invitational, posting a time of 19:41.
