SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — Police arrested a Narragansett man accused of driving under the influence and hitting a utility pole on Friday afternoon.

South Kingstown police said 53-year-old John Disano was arrested after he allegedly showed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests.

Officers first arrived at the scene on Middlebridge Road around 4 p.m.

According to the department, after that utility pole was struck, it snapped and fell across both of the road’s lanes.

Middlebridge Road was closed for several hours while crews fixed the downed wires.

Police also said they confiscated “suspected narcotics” that they’re going to test.
