High-Visibility Boating Patrols Planned by DEM Environmental Police Over July 4th Weekend
As the Fourth of July weekend approaches, Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay and other waterways will soon be bustling with boaters. In anticipation, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM), in partnership with the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), is urging boaters to stay sober. The agencies are stepping up enforcement efforts as part of a national crackdown on impaired boating.
Elephant Sculptures Visit Newport to Spread a Message
Starting on July 4, visit Newport to see the start of the 3,500-mile “The Great Elephant Migration” across America, with one-hundred elephants young and old. The fun part? These elephants are made of an invasive weed, Lantana camera, and they are an art exhibit made by The Coexistence Collective. The exhibit will be in four places across Newport: Rough Point, the Great Friends Meeting House, Salve Regina University along the Cliff Walk, and the Breakers. The elephants will be on view until September 7.
