SPRING HOPE — An early evening storm arrived post-haste in the area on Tuesday, bringing high winds and sideways-bearing water.

The tempest was the latest in a volatile pattern to plague southern Nash County in a weeklong period — one responsible for 3.38 inches of rainfall, according to The Weather Channel’s website.

“Last night’s storm popped up quickly and started with very high winds,” Spring Hope Mayor Kyle Pritchard told The Enterprise on Wednesday. “Shortly after the wind started, we had torrential downpours. The storm thankfully was short-lived. We needed the rain, so I’m grateful that we got the rain and glad there was no devastating damage or bodily injury inside town limits.”

Several trees were downed along the shoulder of U.S. Highway 64 Alternate, however, with a large oak falling into a home in Ferrells Township. No fatalities were reported.
