Nashville, Illinois residents evacuate following water overtopping dam

NASHVILLE, Il. (KMOX) - Residents in parts of Nashville, Illinois were told to evacuate their homes Tuesday morning when water overtopped the Nashville Reservoir dam.

Washington County Emergency Management Agency advised around 200 residents who live near the area in a Facebook post Tuesday to evacuate.

Some residents were reporting water in their homes as high as waist deep. One resident needed rescue.

Nashville, Illinois is just over an hour away from St. Louis.

The county says evacuation was complete at 1:45 pm. There have not been any significant injuries or deaths.

The EPA says a shelter was set up at 680 West Walnut Street.

Freeburg, New Athens, Marissa, Smithton and St. Libory Fire Departments were requested for water rescue operations.

KMOX News reporter Sean Malone was on the scene and was able to get photos and video of the scene.
