    Flood clean kits available

Residents of Nashville, Illinois, will be able to collect cleanup kits from the American Red Cross this week to help with flooding recovery efforts.

Last week, multiple inches of rain fell, leading to flash flooding in Nashville and the surrounding area. Local emergency officials warned of an imminent dam failure and evacuated over 200 residents.

    Housing tax credits

The Illinois Housing Development Authority Board has announced awards totaling $23.8 million in federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits that will finance the creation and preservation of 16 affordable housing developments in 10 counties throughout Illinois.

Once completed, the developments will offer 792 affordable units for low- to moderate-income families, seniors and persons with special needs. Officials said the public-private program is the largest generator of affordable housing in that nation.

    Unclaimed property auction

A woman’s 18-karat yellow gold Rolex Oyster watch, Mike Singletary and Troy Aikman football cards, and scores of collectable coins, bills and bars of precious metals are just some of the 250 unclaimed property lots on display for the public to preview on Thursday before next month’s live auction at the Illinois State Fair.

Treasurer Michael Frerichs will serve as guest auctioneer for some of these top items at the start of the live auction, which begins at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 17 on the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

The unclaimed property has been divided into 250 lots for the auction, with some lots consisting of a single item and other lots consisting of multiple items.
