Jack White seems to have surprise released a new album in the most Jack White way imaginable: on vinyl, and only available to those who can get to one of his Third Man Records stores in Nashville, Detroit, and London.

Third Man is giving out the albums for free with any purchase at the store on Friday (July 19) only, according to Third Man’s London Instagram stories. The album doesn’t appear to say anything other than “No Name” on the vinyl. As of press time, it’s unclear whether the new album will see any wider release. When asked for more details, White’s publicist said he was “as surprised as everyone else” about the new record.

Fans on a subreddit for White’s music who’ve listened to the new album have described the record as more raw and stripped back than his more recent albums like Fear of the Dawn . One fan described it as White’s “most raw since The White Stripes by far.”

The new album is White’s first release since 2022, when he put out Fear of the Dawn in April, then Entering Heaven Alive three months later.

White, a longtime champion of vinyl records, is no stranger to sharing music in less than conventional ways. Back in 2016, White and Third Man played the first ever vinyl record in space, deployed through a high-altitude balloon.

Long prior to then, back when he was a full-time upholsterer in Detroit, White and his coworker Brian Muldoon had formed a band called The Upholsterers, and they hid 100 vinyl copies of their music in some of the furniture they worked on. Some fans have since discovered the vinyl copies.
