Lost history lies in neglected Manteo cemetery
There is nothing to mark what was once the Scarborough family cemetery on Driftwood Street in Manteo. Listed by Dare County GIS as a 1,000-square foot cemetery, the site is on private property and is overgrown with shrubs and small trees. Lance Williams, a Department of Agricultural and Human Sciences undergraduate, received the McKenzie Study Abroad Award from the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. In 2024, Phi Kappa Phi provided awards to 125 exceptional college students across the country to offset the cost of studying abroad. Wendell H. McKenzie and his wife Georgie McKenzie established the McKenzie Study Abroad Award. McKenzie is a past president of the Society, and the award is given annually to NC State’s most outstanding study abroad applicant.
Edenton Announces Interim Police Chief
EDENTON – The Town of Edenton and the Edenton Police Department are pleased to announce that Mr. George Robinson has been named Interim Police Chief, effective Aug. 1, 2024. While in Edenton, Interim Chief Robinson will step in to lead the police force amidst the retirement of Chief Henry A.
