The Nashville Predators have been a happy surprise this season in the NHL. While it looks like the team was going through a re-tool, success has come much quicker than anticipated and everything has come together for them at the right time.

NHL EDGE stats has been a very interesting integration into the league to give everyone a better look at stats many wouldn't think about or even think could be tracked. The Predators happen to be amongst the leaders in multiple of these stats, lead by Filip Forsberg, Roman Josi, and Juuse Saros - the core.

Forsberg has been great this season and is finding the back of the net at a rate that should allow him to pass his career high in goals before the end of the season. This is being done because the sniper is finding the high danger areas and finishing. He is tied for fifth in the NHL in high danger goals with 25. That means 25 of his 39 goals this season have been from those areas.

On the back-end, Josi has been a horse for the Predators and is having a great season once again. With the amount of time he plays each game, he skates a ton. This season he has the fourth-most miles skated with 253.19. What is even crazier is that he has had a higher average time on ice (ATOI) in eight of his 12 previous seasons.

That isn't all that Josi is near the top of the NHL for this season. He shoots the puck hard, shown by recording 44 shots that are at least 90 miles per hour this season. That has him tied in fourth. But while being ranked fourth in two stats, he is tied for third in long-range goals with seven. As a defenseman who mans the point and 18 goals on the season, this isn't a shock.

Saros has also been a workhorse for the Predators this season, but that is expected of him. While he hasn't played at a Vezina-caliber all season, he has played some very good hockey. He has played the most games among goaltenders with 56 and has the second-most saves in the NHL with 1141, 64 behind Ilya Sorokin. Saros has also locked it down from mid-range, saving the most mid-range shots (435) and recording the second-best mid-range save percentage at .922.

It makes sense that the core that the Predators stuck with heading into this season has been as good as they have as every single feat these three have accomplished so far has gone into the success of the team.
