Roman Josi is proving without a shadow of a doubt that he is one of the very best defensemen in the NHL, not only this season, but in the last couple of decades. There aren't many players on the back-end who can or ever could control a game and dominate like he can, and if it weren't for multiple forwards having incredible seasons, Josi would be a Hart Trophy finalist. I would bet that he even gets a fair bit of top-five votes.

That being said, Josi has been a force offensively, scoring 20 goals in a season for the second time in his career. This isn't very common and only a select few active defensemen can say that they have accomplished this feat multiple times in their career.

Josi scored 23 goals in 2021-22 and just hit 20 goals this season. He joins Brent Burns (3), Erik Karlsson (3), and Oliver Ekman-Larsson (2) as the only active d-men to reach the mark at least twice. Six others who have done so once, including Cale Makar, Dougie Hamilton, Mark Giordano, Zach Werenski, Victor Hedman, and Morgan Rielly.

Josi scored 20 or more goals in a season at age 31 and 33. Only Burns has done so multiple times at age 30 or older (30 and 31 years old), while Karlsson, Giordano, and Hedman are the only other active defensemen to reach 20 goals in a season while in their 30s.

The Nashville Predators' captain is the oldest active defenseman to score 20 goals in a season as well. Reaching this mark at 33 years old passes Giordano (2015-16) and Karlsson (2022-23) who did so at age 32. Josi is always involved in the offense and I'm not betting against him to score 20 goals again next season.
