Roman Josi Named NHL's Second Star of the Week

Nashville Predators captain Roman Josi was named the NHL's Second Star of the Week for the week ending April 14.

Josi led all defensemen and placed fourth in the NHL with 7 points (2 goals, 5 assists) in three games as the Predators went 2-0-1 to secure their 16th playoff berth in the past 20 seasons.

He collected a pair of third-period assists – including his 80th point of 2023-24 – as Nashville rallied to earn its postseason-clinching point in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets April 9.

Josi also reached the 60-assist milestone for the second time with another helper in a 5-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks April 12. He last accomplished the feat in 2021-22, when he amassed 73 assists in 80 games played.

Josi capped off the week with his eighth career four-point performance and first since Nov. 17, 2022 (4 assists against the New York Islanders) in Nashville's 6-4 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets April 13.

Josi sits third among defensemen – and 22nd in the NHL – with 85 points through 81 total contests this season. His 85 points are his most since he established a career high of 96 in 2021-22. Only two other active blueliners have produced multiple 80-point campaigns: Pittsburgh's Erik Karlsson and Colorado's Cale Makar, both with two.

Josi leads all NHL defensemen in goals this season with 23, and his 62 assists are tied with Edmonton's Evan Bouchard for fourth among league blueliners. While Makar and Vancouver's Quinn Hughes are widely regarded as the favorites for the Norris Trophy, awarded to the league's top defenseman, Josi has made a compelling case to be considered as a finalist at season's end.
