Jeremy Lauzon has been a machine all season long in the hits department. The 26-year-old has set a new NHL record for hits in a season with 383, passing the previous record of 382 held by Matt Martin.

It was only fitting that Lauzon would set the record in the final game of the season with 9 hits. He has been on the second pairing this season and played the game like no other. The closest player in hits to the Nashville Predators' defenseman this season was Garnet Hathaway with 320 hits, and he played two more games.

Lauzon averaged just over 18:30 per game this season in 79 games. Without missing a few in the second half of the season, he wouldn't have had to put together a clinic in the final game of the regular season to beat the previous record in style.

Before Lauzon broke it, Martin's record came in 2014-15 at 25 years old and in his fifth season in the NHL when he hit everything that moved. In five of his first seven seasons, Martin recorded at least 300 hits.

This is Lauzon's third full season in the NHL and the most games he's ever played. After recording 250 hits in 67 games last season, he stepped deeper into his role and this season is the result. Lauzon had more 10-hit games (3) than no-hit games this season (2) and finished up the 2023-24 campaign recording 26 hits in his last four games.

Physicality is still a big part of the game and Lauzon fully embraced his role on the back-end for the Predators. He should be able to continue making a big impact every night by playing the way he has.
