Nashville Predators Are Out of Offer Sheet Danger This Summer

Offer sheets aren't a common occurrence in the NHL even though many teams are capable of doing them each season. What is rare was the double offer sheet from the St. Louis Blues to Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg of the Edmonton Oilers in a great attempt to get one of both over to the team for below market value.

Whether the Oilers match the contracts or not, that brings us to the Nashville Predators who have a couple of players who would have been at risk of having an offer sheet sent their way, Philip Tomasino and Juuso Panssinen.

That has all changed now after the team traded Cody Glass and cleared up a bit of cap space. He has a cap hit of $2.5 million AAV for one final year, but the Predators were able to move the 25-year-old along with a 2023 third-round pick and a 2026 sixth-round pick in order to keep both players around and potentially offer a little more than they could have before with no two-way option on the deal.

Both Tomasino and Parssinen are RFAs and without deals yet. Both forwards have also completed the final season in which they are able to be sent down without passing through waivers. They are most definitely asking for one-way deals, something Spencer Stastney wasn't fortunate enough to get in the first year of his latest deal.

Tomasino and Parssinen have proven that they are capable of producing at the NHL level and deserve to be given a chance this season. Neither are going to get over $1.25 million this offseason, so I think one-year deals are the way to go for both. Cap space opens up and it gives the Predators an opportunity to closely analyze each of them and determine what the contracts should be moving forward.

While Tomasino has more experience in the NHL than Holloway and Broberg, he also hasn't been an everyday NHLer since his rookie season in 2021-22. But to be fair, he did score seven goals and 20 points in 41 games for the Predators last season while averaging just 12:34 minutes per game. Parssinen has the least experience of the four players, but many see him as a future contributor down the middle where the Predators are currently weak. That opportunity and elevation could come as soon as this season.

Holloway and Broberg had the reps in the playoffs and performed. This is something neither Tomasino or Parssinen have got a chance to do yet, so teams will be reluctant to take a big leap on young players who haven't shown anything when it counts. That is what St. Louis was banking on as well as the Oilers having no money at the time to match the offers.

While Holloway and Broberg are taken off the board this year when it comes to offer sheets, there are still better unsigned players around the league that teams looking to sign can target over what the Predators have to offer. If a team is going to send offer sheets, they better be sure there is a good chance the team the player is currently on can't match.

The Predators may seemingly be out of danger from offer sheets this season now, but Barry Trotz better be sure Luke Evangelista is signed before teams take notice, especially if the young winger has a strong season again.
