Oilers' Evan Bouchard Passes Roman Josi in Career Playoff Points

Roman Josi is one of the best defensemen in the NHL and is still doing great things at nearly 34 years old. But as far as the playoffs have gone in his career, he would have liked to make a larger impact in most seasons.

As impressive as Josi has been in his career, a young star is rising for the Edmonton Oilers and already has more career playoff points than Josi in 1/3 of the seasons and less than 1/2 of the games.

The Oilers' Evan Bouchard, at age 24, has recorded 46 points in 40 career playoff games. Josi has 45 playoff points in 91 career games.

Josi is a stellar all-around defenseman and even with the talent on the back-end, he has played alongside throughout his career, he still got a lot of power-play time and offensive opportunities. Bouchard is in a very similar spot early on in his career.

The Predators had a great team for a number of years and Josi made the playoffs in eight consecutive seasons. In his 10 postseason appearances, the Nashville Predators' captain has only finished at a point-per-game once, and it came in 2020 when they were put out in four games in the play-in round. He had four assists.

Only once has Josi ever finished a playoff run with 10 or more points as well. That came in the Predators' Stanley Cup Final appearance when he recorded six goals and 14 points in 22 games.

Bouchard has only played in three playoffs. The Oilers have made it out of the first round in all three and to the Conference Finals in two of them. Bouchard's contributions offensively in the three playoffs have been nine points in 16 games in his first full season, 17 points in 12 games last season, and 20 points in 12 games already in the 2024 playoffs.

Nowadays, passing Josi in anything is pretty impressive as he has recorded 240 points in 229 regular season games over the past three seasons. Josi has been in the Norris Trophy conversation for the last 10 years since he was 24 years old. Bouchard is at that age now and on a similar, yet higher offensive trajectory than Josi.
