John Ramsey, 80 , whole-heartedly believes the police have given up on solving the 28-year-old mystery of his daughter, JonBenét Ramsey, murder and is "just waiting" for him to die.

John's daughter, who was six at the time of her murder, was brutally beaten and strangled to death in 1996 in her own home . The case was never solved. It garnered attention from around the globe, and sparked the release of various books, documentaries and several theories.

John vows to be around for a long time so Colorado law enforcement officials will keep feeling pressure to solve his daughter's brutal murder. “I’m not going to die,” he said during an interview at CrimeCon, a true crime convention, in Nashville on May 31. “Well, I’m going to be around for a good while.”

JonBenét would have turned 33 in August. The young beauty queen's family has never given up in finding out who killed their daughter the day after Christmas all those years ago. John said its the reason he decided to attend CrimeCon to continue to tell JonBenét’s story.

“We heard, reliably, that one of the members of the police department — I don’t know who — told a journalist, ‘We’re just waiting for John Ramsey to die,’” the father claimed. “And the implication is: then pressure will be off, and all this will go away,” he added. “It’s just disgusting, but it’s not out of character at all.”

The timeline of events on that goes as follows: someone broke into the Ramsey home, struck the six-year-old in the back of the head before ultimately strangling her. Her skull was fractured, according to an autopsy report. Around her neck was a garrote made from white rope and a broken paintbrush.

For a time, police suspected John and his late wife Patsy based solely on probable cause but the two were soon ruled out. John was forced to continue the fight alone when his wife dies of cancer in 2006, which was the same year John Mark Karr, a teacher, confessed to the murder.

He would soon be cleared because his DNA was not a match with samples found at the scene. Over the weekend, John seemed to acknowledge that one day he will die. However he said his son, John Andrew Ramsey, will “take over.”

“He’s very passionate about getting this resolved, and I’m grateful for that,” he added.
