Former Nashville Predators general manager David Poile and former captain Shea Weber have been elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame .

Poile spent 41 years as a general manager, following in the footsteps of his late father, Bud Poile, also a former NHL GM who was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1990.

The first general manager in franchise history, Poile led the Predators for 25 seasons until his retirement in 2023. Before joining Nashville, he held the same position with the Washington Capitals from 1982-1997. He is the winningest and longest-tenured general manager in NHL history and the only general manager to lead two clubs to 1,000 games and 500 wins.

During Poile's tenure as general manager, the Predators notched a 939-718-(60)-178 record, the Presidents’ Trophy, a Western Conference championship and two Central Division championships. They made the playoffs 15 times, including eight straight seasons from 2015 to 2022.

Poile drafted Weber with the No. 49 overall pick in the second round of the 2003 NHL Draft. He played 763 games for the Predators, scoring 166 goals and 277 assists, and he was named captain of the team in 2010. His 166 career goals were the most by any Predators defenseman until 2023-24, when current captain Roman Josi broke his record. Weber still holds the Predators franchise record for career power-play goals (80).

A three-time Norris Trophy finalist and a four-time NHL All-Star, Weber also had a decorated career on the international stage stage. In addition to winning gold with Canada at the 2010 and 2014 Olympics, he also represented his country twice at the World Championship, winning gold in 2007 and silver in 2009. Weber was also a member of Canada’s World Cup of Hockey squad that won gold in 2016.

Poile traded Weber to the Montreal Canadiens for P.K. Subban on June 29, 2016, a day he called “one of my toughest days I ever had.” Now, eight years later, the pair will be reunited as Hall of Famers when they are inducted as part of the Class of 2024 on Nov. 11 in Toronto.
