NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The first 2024 Presidential debate left some voters speechless as it raised concerns over both candidates’ ability to run the country.

Another concern was whether President Joe Biden or former President Donald Trump are the best candidates for the job.

Some of the most common phrases heard from voters included “very disappointed and concerned about our country”, “it was quite interesting” and “could be better.”

Those were just a few of the responses that both Republican and Democratic voters at Nashville International Airport shared with News 2 after watching the debate.

“I thought the debate only took a couple minutes in to already realize what I think everyone was wondering across the country,” voter Gabe Poirot said. “Is this really the leader of the free world in front of me right now who can’t even speak a coherent sentence?”

“I thought [at] the debate, neither one did a terrific job. Of course, I’m a Republican. Biden did not do well at all,” voter Sherrie Walter said. “I thought Trump didn’t get to the issues that he should have talked about more and they they argued amongst each other.”

“I would say border security is a big issue, inflation is an issue and gas prices, all that kind of stuff,” voter Sara Einck said. “Our current president is not taking us in the right direction.”

“Trump was a bully and thought that he was right,” voter Tishauna Douglas said. “He thought that he won like he always does. I’m looking forward more debates and to hear more later on because I want Biden to give us more and fill us in on his ideas and what his plans are this time.”

The battle for the presidency will continue until election day on November 5.
