Straight from The Great American Bar Scene . Tomorrow is the big day when Zach Bryan releases The Great American Bar Scene. The singles we have gotten thus far, like "Purple Gas" and
"Pink Skies," give fans a peek at what is in store. And by all accounts, it appears this album will be one that ZB fans love. Fans at recent shows for the Quttin' Time Tour have gotten more of a preview of the album, with ZB taking some songs from the record to the stage. During his Nashville show, Bryan took a new one to the stage, appropriately named for the scorching heat in Nashville the night of his show, "Wet, Hot American Nights." The song gives a small town summer field, with county fairs and picnics: “Screen door cracked, there's a ball game on Man on a porch singin’ baritone Tan line leads to that gentle place Between her collarbone and her stone-cold face.”
It also reminds me of summer when I was a teenager sneaking around, stealing booze, and having fun without getting into too much trouble. “Wet, hot, American nights Come shake your body dry under coastline lights Wet, hot, American nights Snuck our Fords to the shore and drank a bottle bone-dry Snuck our Fords to the shore and drank a bottle bone-dry” As the lyrics go on, they show the progression of life, and looking back on those innocent years, one realizes that growing up is hard. As Bryan looks back on the memories he made during the small-town summers when humidity filled the air, he sees a damp environment filled with laughs and time with close friends. As it was the first time Bryan sang the song on stage, he messed up a tiny bit of the lyrics, but it did not affect how quickly I was drawn to this song. With the moaning of the steel guitar in the background, the melody is country to its core. Combined with the songwriting, it's a recipe for a ditty that gets stuck in you're head quickly.
