Nashville favorites reopen, new 'groovy' Korean food

Hi, Nashville! It's Hadley Hitson, The Tennessean's business reporter covering dining, health care and the trending news in between. If you missed the announcement last week, I'm taking charge of this newsletter from our senior dining reporter Mackensy Lunsford to continue bringing everything you need to know about Nashville food news to your inbox.

The end of June means we have our monthly roundup of restaurant openings and closings ready for you this week.

One fun new spot in midtown is Onda, a self-described "groovy Korean" restaurant taking the place of Scout's Pub, which closed back in April. The interior got a revamp in the last two months, and the menu is filled with Korean classics like bulgogi, kimchi, bibimbop and ramen.

I would also highly recommend the mandoo, or vegetable dumplings, that come with a crispy edge and spicy dipping sauce.

Sticking with the recent trend of Nashville classics reopening after a closure (think Elliston Place Soda Shop and the forthcoming Gold Rush), two restaurants on the June opening list aren't so much new spots as they are revivals. Popular bar and restaurant Tavern Midtown reopened its doors after a two year hiatus for renovations, and Marcus Bugg is bringing Cal's Country Kitchen, formerly belonging to his mom, into Nashville from Madison.

You can find the rest of the openings list, plus two closings, here.

As we all know, Nashville's dining scene is ever-evolving, so plenty of other food news came out of the last week too — from a new bar coming to L&L Market to a trendy new menu item at Bagelshop. Check it out:

That's all for now, y'all! Let me know if I'm missing any food content you want to see in The Tennessean. You can reach me at hhitson@tennessean.com.
