NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Fourth of July was the third warmest on record for Nashville with a high of 99°. Now, the heat is fueling storms for Friday, followed by slightly less humid air for the weekend.
Heat alerts
A Heat Advisory remains in effect today for Franklin, Lincoln, & Moore counties until 7 PM Friday. It is important to stay well hydrated, take frequent breaks inside, and check on the children, elderly, and pets.
Today’s main concern is rain & storms through early afternoon. There is a Marginal Risk (Category 1 of 5) for locations east of I-65 (and especially east of I-840), including the Cumberland Plateau. A stronger storm is capable of wind gusts, but all storms will likely produce heavy rainfall and lightning.
Rain and storm chances will be at their highest, impacting all of Middle TN and Southern KY throughout the morning hours of Friday. A few of these storms could be strong. Isolated storms this afternoon with the cold front, then clearing out later this evening. Afternoon temperatures will top out in the upper 80s to lower 90s.
Less humid air will follow for the weekend with highs in the 80s and lower 90s. Next week, storms and more humidity will return.
