The Metro Nashville Police Department has confirmed that a body has been found on Tennessee Titans ’ Nissan Stadium property, according to reports.

An investigation is underway following the discovery of a dead individual inside a tent near Lot M of the Titans’ stadium. According to News Channel 5 Nashville , the body was not wrapped in a tarp but a tarp was found nearby.

The report claims that the police told them that officers are handling the discovery and that no foul play regarding their death is suspected at this time. The individual, who hasn’t been identified, is said to be an unhoused man who had not been seen in a couple of days, with police saying that those who knew him were attempting to locate him.

Police added that a woman in the area alerted a bystander to call authorities around midday on Wednesday, prompting an urgent response. The deceased will now be examined to determine the cause of death and identify the remains.

The scene occurred at the Titans’ current Nissan Stadium home, with no action seen from the NFL team since last season’s ending. Tennessee are currently on break ahead of their return to preseason training camp later this month. An open practice is set to be held at the stadium on July 27.

Titans’ Nissan home opened in 1999 at a construction cost of almost $300million – holding a capacity of 69,143. However, the ground’s days are numbered with a new stadium currently under construction, the New Nissan Stadium broke ground in February and is planned to open in 2027 at a cost of $2.1billion.

A decision to build a new stadium was made in late 2022 after the team paused renovations to the stadium in early February that year, citing the rising costs and the structure as they explored the possibility of replacing the ground in the coming years. The new ground is being built adjacent to the current facility, which will be demolished upon the new stadium’s completion.

The Titans released their 2024 season schedule, with the players to officially report for training camp on July 23 after Tennessee completed their organized team activities and minicamp earlier this month. Their first preseason game will be against the San Francisco 49ers on August 10, with the season beginning on September 8 in Chicago against the Bears. The first home game at the Nissan Stadium is a week later on September 15 against the New York Jets.
