The Tennessee Titans have agreed to a deal with free agent safety Jamal Adams, the NFL team announced Thursday. The deal is reportedly for one year, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Adams, who turns 29 on Oct. 17, spent the past four seasons (2020-23) with the Seattle Seahawks before he was released March 5. Seattle saved $16.5 million in 2024 and $17.5 million in 2025 by releasing Adams.

Adams was selected sixth overall by the New York Jets in the 2017 NFL draft out of LSU. He played his first three seasons (2017-19) with the Jets. During his rookie season, he had 83 combined tackles (63 solo), six pass deflections, and two sacks in 16 games (all starts).

Tennessee currently has Amani Hooker and Elijah Molden listed as its starting safeties. Adams will compete for one of the starting spots when training camp opens July 23.

In 2020, the Seahawks traded two first-round picks to acquire Adams from the Jets. A year later, Seattle made him the NFL’s highest-paid safety with a four-year, $70 million contract extension.

Adams made his third straight Pro Bowl during his debut season with the Seahawks while setting a record for defensive backs with 9.5 sacks. However, he hasn’t recorded a sack since then.

In 2021, he re-tore the left labrum in his left shoulder, limiting him to 12 games. He went on to finish the season with 56 solo tackles, 31 assists on tackles, and two interceptions.

Adams suffered a torn quad tendon in the 2022 season opener

In the first half of the 2022 opener, Adams tore the quadriceps tendon above his left knee, which sidelined him for the first three games of 2023 and ultimately led to the Seahawks shutting him down in December.

Last season with the Seahawks, he finished with 48 total tackles (34 solo) and two passes defended.

Over four years in Seattle, Adams missed 33 of a possible 67 regular-season games. The 6-foot-1, 213-pound safety recorded 9.5 sacks (all in 2020), 19 quarterback hits, 22 tackles for loss, 11 passes defended, and two interceptions.

According to Pro-Football-Reference, Adams has 494 tackles, 21.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, and four interceptions in his career. He also has 42 quarterback hits and 50 tackles for loss.

The former first-rounder was twice named to the Pro Bowl while a member of the Jets (2018, 2019). He was also a first-team All Pro in 2019, when current Titans defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson was his defensive backs coach.
