NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Nashvillians are getting an idea of what the Edgehill neighborhood could look like 20 years from now.

With development well underway in the area, Metro’s Planning Commission has released a masterplan for what’s next. The 117-page report outlines the next two decades of Edgehill’s development, following an extensive community outreach period dating back to early 2023.

According to the documents, the plan is centered around three principles: “retain, preserve and return; “inclusive, smart growth;” and “reconnect and elevate.” Some highlights of the development include affordable housing units, more mixed-use spaces, and open green spaces that would connect to the existing parks.

“One of the key kind of charges of this plan was to get old neighbors in the neighborhood, new neighbors in the neighborhood together and in the same room, talking about what they want to see in this neighborhood,” explained Katie Kemezis, Metro’s project manager for the plan. “Building consensus around a vision for the neighborhood and just making sure we have as many representative voices as we can who really reflect the different generations of neighbors in the neighborhood.”

Kemezis said the deep history of Edgehill is a crucial factor in deciding what comes next.

“It’s been a neighborhood that has been ground-zero for so many wonderful community organizers. There’s such a rich history…a neighborhood that has stepped up at times when Nashville needed it,” said Kemezis. “It gets back to creating a neighborhood that gets back to its roots.”

There is still time for the community to review this neighborhood plan. The proposal is currently in a 30-day comment and feedback phase.

Metro’s Planning Commission will officially vote on the plan on August 22nd.
