OBITUARY: Hap ‘Butch’ Chandler Stokes

Hap “Butch” Chandler Stokes passed peacefully at home into the healing presence of Jesus on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Hap was born in Nashville, Tennessee on June 21, 1956.
Preceded in death by his mother and father, H.C. and Mary Lucille Hall Stokes, and brother, Rodger Stokes.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 48 years, Janie “Granny” (Baker) Stokes; sister, Tina Baggett; and brother, Ulysses “Pud” Stokes; son, Casey (Jennifer) Stokes; daughter, Sarah (John) Sanders; grandchildren, Ava (Mitchell) Burnell, Summer McLain, Rory (Ray) Green, Tristen (Preston) Medley, Logan Sanders, and Melody Sanders; great-grandchildren, Scarlett McLain, Adeline Burnell, Amelia Burnell, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Hap worked in the flooring industry for approximately 25 years, and midlife changed careers to the communications cabling industry. Over the years, Hap made countless friends and was known for his attention to detail and rock-solid work ethic. He always prided himself in an honest day’s work.
Hap was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed long drives in the country with “Granny” spotting whitetail deer. Hap loved taking his grandchildren and children fishing whenever possible. He was a man of strong faith who loved hard.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Tommy Swindol on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 12:00 Noon at Christ Church, 15354 Old Hickory Blvd. Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, July 17, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon at Christ Church https://www.woodbinefuneralhome.com
Hap requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
