The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) reported one shooting victim was found dead inside a silver pickup truck. On Tuesday evening, MNPD identified that man as 38-year-old Carson Denny.

Denny’s step-brother, identified as 27-year-old Chandler Barnes, was taken to an area hospital for treatment of critical injuries.

Authorities added that Denny arrived at Barnes’ residence in a rented pickup truck. As Barnes’ fiancé left for work, Denny approached with a gun and demanded to go inside. Once inside, Denny shot Barnes and returned to the truck.

Barnes’ fiancé got him out of the residence to transport him to the hospital. As they were leaving, Denny reportedly shot at Barnes and struck him multiple times before returning to the pickup truck and turning the firearm onto himself. Denny died at the scene.

Barnes is in stable condition at Skyline Medical Center, according to the release. The brothers had allegedly not seen each other in roughly three years, though there were no known issues between the two prior to this morning.

Homicide Unit and domestic violence detectives are working together on the investigation. Denny’s motive for the attempted homicide remains under investigation.

No additional information was immediately released.
