The Tennessee Titans acquired cornerback L’Jarius Sneed in a blockbuster trade with the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this offseason, sending a third-round pick to the Chiefs in exchange.
Now, the Titans apparently have a top-five cornerback in football.
In a recent poll conducted by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler , NFL coaches, executives and scouts voted on the top 10 cornerbacks in the NFL, and Sneed came in at fourth on the list.
It was a somewhat surprising ranking for Sneed, given that he has never made a Pro Bowl. He also finished ahead of Miami Dolphins star Jalen Ramsey, who has made seven straight Pro Bowl appearances while also earning three First-Team All-Pro selections to boot.
Sneed is coming off of a terrific 2023 campaign with Kansas City in which he registered 78 tackles, a couple of interceptions, a fumble recovery and 14 passes defended.
The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Louisiana Tech, was originally selected by the Chiefs in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Sneed became a full-time starter as soon as his second season, finishing with 76 tackles, a pair of picks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and eight passes defended. He then had a breakout year in 2022, racking up 108 stops, 3.5 sacks, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 11 passes defended.
Most importantly, Sneed helped lead Kansas City to back-to-back Super Bowl championships before exiting. The Chiefs traded Sneed after slapping a franchise tag on him.
The Titans have had a very busy offseason
The Titans have been one of the busiest teams in the NFL over the last several months, signing the top wide receiver on the market in Calvin Ridley and also the best center available in Lloyd Cushenberry.
Additionally, Tennessee landed running back Tony Pollard and veteran receiver Tyler Boyd. The Titans then selected tackle JC Latham in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Tennessee should absolutely be a better football team in 2024 and could very well end up contending in the very competitive AFC South division.
Sneed should play a big role in the Titans’ potential transformation this coming season, but Tennessee’s success will largely depend on the performance of second-year quarterback Will Levis.
If Levis can put forth a decent showing in his sophomore campaign, it would not be the least bit surprising to see the Titans post a winning record in 2024.
