Tennessee Titans oddly suggested as trade partner for veteran wideout

The Tennessee Titans have question marks at position groups on both sides of the ball going into training camp, but the wide receiver position is not one of them.

That's because the Titans added both Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd to a group that already had DeAndre Hopkins, who was Will Levis' No. 1 target in 2023. That trio has the potential to be one of the league's best in 2024.

So it's a surprising to see Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox suggest the Titans as a potential landing spot for New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton if he's traded.

The Titans may also consider adding Slayton, even though they added Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd in free agency. DeAndre Hopkins is entering the final year of his contract, and the 27-year-old Slayton could be worth signing long-term. 2022 first-round pick Treylon Burks has also been a massive disappointment and could land on the trade market without an impressive camp.

Tennessee receivers coach Tyke Tolbert previously coached Slayton in the same role with the Giants.

If the Titans were to pull the trigger on a trade for Slayton, he would be no better than the No. 4 receiver on the depth chart, assuming Hopkins, Ridley and Boyd all enter the season healthy.

Knowing that, it would be silly for general manager Ran Carthon to spend a fifth-round pick on Slayton, which is what Knox thinks it will take. Further, the Titans would be spending that draft capital on a player who will be a free agent in 2025.

Even if the Titans were to trade for Slayton and then sign him to a long-term deal, he's hardly a viable option to replace such an important receiver like Hopkins, who could very well return in 2025.

Tennessee is much better suited keeping their fifth-round pick and relying on Treylon Burks and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine as their top depth options. As things stand now, it makes zero sense for trade for Slayton.
