Somah Kamara has announced her commitment to play NCAA Division 1 college women’s basketball at Tennessee State University.

Kamara, a recently graduated senior at Robbinsdale Cooper High School, earned attention last season as the Hawks’ only senior on the 2023-24 girls basketball team.

The opportunity to lead the way was welcomed by Kamara, who was a standout shooting guard for the Hawks and left the school with several program records to her name, including single-game points (43), single-season points (592), single-season steals (116), and career steals (315). She also broke the 1,000-career point mark in her senior year.

Kamara gave an official statement following her commitment, in which she thanked all who supported her journey to attain the opportunity to play DI basketball.

“First I would like to thank God for continuing to bless me,” Kamara wrote. “I would like to thank my family for their love and support. I would also like to thank [Cooper head coach Ebony Rich] and all the coaches throughout my career for investing in my future.”

Kamara had also received offers from both Queens College and Edward Waters University.
