NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Nashville will be in the political spotlight this week with former President Donald Trump and other noteworthy politicians scheduled to speak at a Bitcoin conference.

Bitcoin 2024 will take place from July 25-27 at the Music City Center and is billed as the largest Bitcoin conference in the world with more than 20,000 people expected to attend.

However, despite once calling Bitcoin a “scam” in a 2021 interview, the Republican nominee for president will be speaking on Saturday and is expected to deliver a supportive speech.

“No one knows what Trump is going to say, except for Trump himself. However, we’re really optimistic that it’s going to be a positive message that he delivers to the Bitcoin community. And in fact, we think it’s going to be a historic message,” said event organizer and BTC Inc. Chief of Staff, Brandon Green.

Green said it is normal for someone to start as a Bitcoin skeptic and then turn into a supporter. Green also added their team has been talking with the former president about cryptocurrency and crypto policy for a while now.

“We saw the opportunity to reach out to the former president and talk to him about what Bitcoin is, why countries could be interested in it, why the US specifically could be interested in a Bitcoin strategy. And those conversations were very positive,” Green said.

While no longer dominating headlines, investment company Alto’s founder and CEO Eric Satz said Bitcoin is on the rise.

He said the recent decision from the US Security Exchange Commission has made Bitcoin more attractive to investors. “We have institutional legitimacy really for the first time,” Satz said.

The conference also has other high-profile speakers including US Senators Blackburn and Hagerty (R-Tennessee), as well as NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.
