Nashville SC hires John Bello as assistant on new coach BJ Callaghan's staff

New Nashville SC coach B.J. Callaghan has started to fill out his staff.

NSC announced Wednesday that Callaghan has named John Bello as his first assistant coach. Bello and Callaghan officially joined the club this week and will make their debuts July 31 for Nashville's Leagues Cup opener against Mazatlán.

“We are excited to welcome John and his family to Nashville SC,” Callaghan said in a club release. “John brings a unique blend of experience and expertise that spans across all levels and positions in soccer, most recently playing an integral role for the USMNT 2022 World Cup team. He is a teacher first and foremost with a passion for development and I am confident that combined with his hard-working mentality he will prove to be valuable across all areas of the club.”

Bello worked with Callaghan, a former assistant for the United States men's national soccer team, from 2021-23. Bello served on the USMNT technical staff, leading the opponent analysis teams and working with match and training preparation.

A former player at College of Charleston, Bello got into coaching with D.C. United in 2013 and remained with the club until 2018. He served in a variety of roles for D.C. United, including Director of Scouting, Residential Program Manager and head coach of the club's U-15 team.

Callaghan once again,” Bello said. “I am grateful for this incredible opportunity and look forward to building strong relationships with the players, staff, and supporters. Nashville has a passionate soccer community that my family and I can’t wait to be a part of.”
