A couple is dead after an apparent murder-suicide at a Cane Ridge apartment complex.

Metro Nashville Police were called to the Vintage Century Farms Apartments just before 9 p.m. Tuesday, the department said in a news release. Neighbors called police to report the couple "arguing, screaming and gunshots" outside one of the apartments, police said.

Tatayana Smith, 24, and Theodore Smith, 37, were both dead by the time police arrived on scene.

Police belive Theodore Smith had gotten dressed to go to work as a hotel security guard when he asked his wife to step outside to talk, the release said. The couple then argued.

A neighbor intervened in their argument, convincing Theodore Smith to walk away briefly, police said.

"He then turned around, pushed the victim into a corner, unholstered a semi-automatic pistol, and shot his wife multiple times," the release said. "He then walked back into the apartment, retrieved another pistol, and shot the victim several more times before killing himself."

Police said they had no previous reports of domestic violence between the couple.
