NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The suspect who reportedly shot a Metro Nashville Police officer during his attempted arrest earlier this month has been booked following his release from the hospital on Thursday.

Miqueal Williams, 31, was originally wanted on an outstanding warrant for first-degree murder. A post to X, formerly Twitter, from the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) reported that in addition to that outstanding warrant, Williams was booked with an additional new charge for attempted murder after wounding an officer on July 15.

Williams had been added to Nashville’s list of “Most Wanted” fugitives because he was believed to have shot and killed 32-year-old Samuel L. Edwards Jr. in March. On the afternoon of July 15, Detective Carlos Diaz attempted to arrest Williams.

As officers approached him, Williams reportedly left the vehicle with a semi-automatic pistol. Williams began shooting and officers on the scene returned fire and struck Diaz. Williams was also injured during the encounter. Diaz was released from the hospital on the evening of July 15.

Metro Police released the body camera footage of Diaz and Detective Joseph Gonzales, who also fired shots, to YouTube . Authorities added that the video appears in real-time before being slowed because the gunfire happened quickly. Diaz’s camera had reportedly not yet begun to record audio when the shooting took place.
